Description
Hallstatt, Austria is listed as one of the ten most beautiful places on Earth. It dates back to the time of the Roman Empire as salt was mined in the area. The Czar Nicholas of Russia brought his family here in the summer. Years ago I saw a documentary about Hallstatt. I determined that someday I was going to go there. Two years ago I was in Salzburg, Austria. I got up way before dawn and caught a train to Hallstatt. Around 9 a.m. the train stopped at a tiny depot in the Alps. From there I caught a ferry across the lake to Hallstatt. It was a dream come true. Hallstatt is like a fairy tale, a place that time forgot and really is in the top 10 in the world.
